Daddio

I watched Daddio (2023) the other night on Netflix and found it surprisingly enjoyable. Generally, I avoid Sean Penn, as I haven't liked him in anything since Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but he was superb in Daddio as Clark the cab driver. The reason I chose it is because I am sick of the same-old offerings, plus Dakota Johnson starred, and I love her (no, I haven't and won't watch the dopey Fifty Shades flicks ~ I love her from other films). The premise of Daddio is that Clark and his passenger "Girlie" (I don't think we ever learn her actual name) have a deep and revealing conversation on the way from JFK to Midtown. That's it! Two characters talk about shit for a couple hours. I guess Girlie's cell phone is also a character, since she's on it frequently during the cab ride to sext with her married boyfriend. I wouldn't give it five out of five stars because it dragged a bit in the middle, but I will give it four. Clark and Girlie's chat veers off in surprising directions from computer programming to being tied up in a bathtub, and it is impossible to predict how things will end. Clark isn't necessarily a sympathetic character, but he's interesting and philosophical, and Girlie is 100% sympathetic. Recommend!

  2. I'll have to watch that one. To be honest, I probably skimmed past it on Netflix's menu thinking it would be awful. It sounds interesting.

  4. I will. BTW continuing to have trouble getting comments to stick and I get the try-again-later message. Frequently. The trouble is since my wit is so fleeting and aethereal, I'm generally incapable of trying again later.

  6. Do you subscribe to AppleTV+? If so, I recommend “Shrinking.” It stars Harrison Ford, Jason Segal, and Jessica Williams along with an excellent supporting cast. I just binged season 1. Now I'm taking a break and binging on OMITB, and once I'm done with that I'll go back to season 2 of Shrinking.
