Didn’t bloom where I was planted
Traded blizzards for hills of gold
Chi-town left me disenchanted
Didn’t bloom where I was planted
Took those promises for granted
The sunny sands were oversold
Didn’t bloom where I was planted
Traded blizzards for hills of gold

Triolet quadrille (structured 44 words) written for the dVerse Poets prompt of bloom. I never regret my move from Chicago, Illinois to Southern California in 1983, but the grass is definitely always greener in your dreams.

Beautiful blog
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteDoes anything bloom in Chicago? I've never been there, but the winters sound horrendous.
ReplyDeleteThere is a saying that the grass is greenest where you water it. I hope the hills of gold are, at least, less disenchanting.
I am content here :)
DeleteAs far as winters go, I grew up in Connecticut so cold weather holds no horrors for me.

I like it. I've only been to Chicago once when I was riding the Greyhound bus.
ReplyDeleteWinters were brutal!
DeleteChanged trains in Chicago on my way to Navy boot camp - 1976.
DeleteVisited Chicago in conjunction with my nephew's graduation from Navy boot camp in 2010.
Visited Chicago again on my way to Seattle for a niece's wedding (driving cross-country was a bucket list item) in 2021.
Changed planes in Chicago after traveling from Seattle to Norfolk after my niece's wedding in 2021. NOTE: No WAY was I going to drive BACK across country!
That's so true! I've been dreaming about other locations but I always pause and have to think about how comfortable our existence here is and what a major trauma it would be to lose our constant sunshine.
ReplyDeleteOoh, ooh, let me try!

Traded Blizzards for Peanut Buster Parfaits (oh, NOT about Dairy Queen?"
Atlantic City left me penniless.
Married two promises (fingers crossed on the third).
The Virginia Beach oceanfront is overrated.
Didn't bloom where I was planted.
Traded blizzards for fewer blizzards.
