Transplant

At Marina del Rey, CA ~ August 2020

Didn’t bloom where I was planted

Traded blizzards for hills of gold

Chi-town left me disenchanted

Didn’t bloom where I was planted

Took those promises for granted

The sunny sands were oversold

Didn’t bloom where I was planted

Traded blizzards for hills of gold

Triolet quadrille (structured 44 words) written for the dVerse Poets prompt of bloom. I never regret my move from Chicago, Illinois to Southern California in 1983, but the grass is definitely always greener in your dreams.

  1. Does anything bloom in Chicago? I've never been there, but the winters sound horrendous.

There is a saying that the grass is greenest where you water it. I hope the hills of gold are, at least, less disenchanting.

    1. As far as winters go, I grew up in Connecticut so cold weather holds no horrors for me.

  2. I like it. I've only been to Chicago once when I was riding the Greyhound bus.

Changed planes in Chicago after traveling from Seattle to Norfolk after my niece's wedding in 2021. NOTE: No WAY was I going to drive BACK across country!

  3. That's so true! I've been dreaming about other locations but I always pause and have to think about how comfortable our existence here is and what a major trauma it would be to lose our constant sunshine.
