Triggers (a list poem)

Glass of red "Cupcake" wine photo by me

Alcohol, caffeine,
Too little sleep,
Chocolate, concerts,
Old moldy cheese;

Flashing lights,
Spousal fights,
Any kind of stress;

Hammers pounding,
Drugs rebounding,
Kids who make a mess;

Hot dogs, MSG,
Artificial sweets,
Nitrates, HRT,
All the histamines;

Smoke alarms,
Stinky farms,
Too much exercise;

Beeping trucks,
Quacking ducks,
Films that make me cry;

Jet lag, perfume,
The smell of gasoline,
Screen time, sunshine,
Changes to routine;

Pressure drops,
Sudden stops,
Increased humidity;

Dehydration,
Celebrations,
Don’t forget to breathe!

I saw list poetry on some blogs this week, which inspired me to do my own with common migraine triggers (it's been a bad migraine week).

  1. I'm sorry you're having migraines. Those suck.

  2. Aw, so sorry about having a whole week of migraines! I do like the poem! Crying because of a movie reminds me of an odd thing I experienced for the first time in my life: I cried at the ending of a James Bond movie! Daniel Craig's latest. Was not expecting that and suddenly felt old. (I'm over it now, but have reaffirmed that I don't like modern movies, although the JB ending was logical.)

    1. Thanks Keera! Oh, the weirdest things make me cry now, like "Puff, the Magic Dragon." So ridiculous...

    2. After I became an adult, "Puff" always makes me tear up. Go figure.

  3. That's a lot of triggers! Having to go through life avoiding all those things must be almost as much of a pain as the migraines!
