Thunder (flash fiction)

Colorful music notes (Pixabay)

The empty stage beckons like a blank canvas ready to burst with color and movement.

She flings herself across the floorboards, whirling and twisting, jumping and kicking, all to the beat of a mad rock and roll symphony playing inside her head.

Sweat drips down her face as she dances faster, merging with the music as a single entity, encouraged by the thunder of imaginary applause and the screams for an encore.

This is what she has been waiting for her whole life, while pretending to be an introvert and hiding her true talents from the world, when all along she craves the spotlight and the adulation of millions.

“Janice, did you finish vacuuming the auditorium yet?”

Jolted out of her fantasy, she reluctantly trudges off the stage and back to her pile of cleaning supplies.
